Castelnavet ( Gascon : Castèthnavèth) is a French commune of 130 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Gers in the region Okzitanien ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Mirande .
geography
Castelnavet is around 37 kilometers (as the crow flies) west of the city. Also in the west of the Gers department and belongs to the Côtes de Saint-Mont wine-growing region and the Armagnac brandy region . Numerous bodies of water originate or cross the municipal area. Most important is the Petit Midour river . There are also several small dams in the municipality. The community is far away from important national traffic connections. Route nationale 124 is about ten kilometers north of the municipality . The closest bus stop is Dému on line 935 Auch - Mont-de-Marsan.
Castelnavet is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Lupiac in the northeast and east, Saint-Pierre-d'Aubézies in the southeast and south, Couloumé-Mondebat in the southwest and Aignan in the west and northwest.
history
The municipality is historically located within Gascony and belongs to the Bas-Armagnac region . In the 12th century a fortress was built by the Counts of Armagnac. From 1793 to 1801 Castelnavet was part of the Nogaro district and the Lupiac canton. From 1801 to 2015 it was assigned to the canton of Aignan .
