Sainte-Dode ( Gascon Senta Dora ) is a French commune with 209 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitania region (until 2015 Midi-Pyrénées ); it belongs to the Arrondissement Mirande and the municipality of Astarac Arros en Gascogne . The residents call themselves Sainte-Dodais / Sainte-Dodaises .
geography
Sainte-Dode is around eleven kilometers southwest of Mirande and 31 kilometers northeast of Tarbes in the south of the Gers department. The community consists of hamlets, numerous scattered settlements and individual farmsteads. The Osse crosses the municipality in a northerly direction and in parts forms the western municipality boundary.
Neighboring municipalities are Bazugues in the north, Saint-Michel in the north and northeast, Montaut in the east and southeast, Mont-de-Marrast in the south, Sadeillan in the south and southwest and west and Miélan in the west and northwest.
history
The Count of Astarac founded an abbey here in 1034 (which has now disappeared). In the Middle Ages, the community was in the Kastlanei Moncassin of the county of Astarac in the historic Gascon region and shared its fate. Sainte-Dode was part of the Mirande district from 1793 to 1801. The municipality has been part of the Mirande arrondissement since 1801 and belonged to the Miélan canton from 1793 to 2015 .

The population development is typical for a French rural community. The developments between 1793 and 1831 with strong growth and the wave of emigration that continues to this day are normal. Today the population is at a historic low.
