Samaran ( Gascon : also Samaran) is a French commune with 90 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitania region (until 2015 Midi-Pyrénées ); it belongs to the arrondissement of Mirande and the municipal association Val de Gers . The residents call themselves Samaranais / Samaranaises .

geography

Samaran is located around 17 kilometers southeast of Mirande and 29 kilometers south of Auch in the south of the Gers department. The community consists of the town of Samaran, numerous scattered settlements and individual farmsteads.

Neighboring municipalities are Saint-Arroman in the north, Esclassan-Labastide in the northeast, Panassac in the east, Chélan in the southeast and south, Aujan-Mournède in the southwest and west and Lagarde-Hachan in the west.

history

Finds near Boussens from the Gallo-Roman period show an early settlement. In the Middle Ages, Samaran was in Kastlanei Moncassin within the county of Astarac in the historic Gascon region and shared its fate. Samaran belonged to the Mirande district from 1793 to 1801. Since 1801 Samaran has been assigned to the Arrondissement of Mirande and from 1793 to 2015 it belonged to the canton of Masseube .
