history

Castelnau-d'Anglès was in the 13th century by the landlord , depending on Montesquiou. Until the 18th century, the family could hold the manorial rule in direct or indirect line. In the 13th century the Templars owned goods on their lands and in the 15th century they owned a flourishing glass workshop, later a brick factory. A Castelnau ( German  Neuburg , Occitan castèl nòu , in Vulgar Latin castellum novum ) is a village or town that was founded near a castle in the Middle Ages . The village was surrounded by a city wall with two fortified gates. One of these gates adjoins the church building today and serves as a bell tower . The monk Jean Lamy from the Antonite order beautified the small church in the 17th century.

The stately castle was originally a permanent house that was outside the walls. It had a donjon and two towers twelve to fourteen meters high. It threatened to collapse and was rebuilt in a different form in the 19th century, with smaller remains on the foundation of a tower being reused.

Population development

After records began, the population rose to a high of around 420 by the first half of the 19th century. In the following period, the size of the community fell with intermittent recovery phases until the 1980s to its lowest level of around 85 inhabitants before it settled was able to stabilize at a level of around 90 inhabitants.
