Projan ( Gascon : the same name) is a French commune with 184 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitania region ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Mirande and to the community association Communauté de communes d'Aire-sur-l'Adour .
geography
Projan is located around 12 kilometers south of the small town of Aire-sur-l'Adour in the far west of the Gers department on the border with the Landes and Pyrénées-Atlantiques departments . It belongs to the Côtes de Saint-Mont wine region . The main bodies of water are the Lées , Lées (Lannux) , Larcis and several ponds. The most important supra-regional transport connection is the A65 autoroute (part of Europastraße 7 ), a few kilometers west of the municipality . The nearest train station is in Aire-sur-l'Adour.
Projan is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Lannux in the northeast, Aurensan and Verlus in the east, Moncla (in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department) in the south, Sarron (in the Landes department) in the southwest, Saint-Agnet (in the Landes department) and Ségos in the northwest.
history
Historically, the municipality belongs to Gascony . It formed its own feudal lordship in the Middle Ages. In the 18th century, the then existing village was razed to the ground by the Marquis of Angosse in order to build a castle park on it. A new village, Projan, was built not far from here. From 1793 to 1801 Projan belonged to the district of Nogaro and the canton of Barcelonne. In 1822 part of what was then the municipality of Villères was incorporated into the municipality of Projan.
