Betplan (1793 and 1801 with the spellings Besplan and Belplan ; Occitan : Bèthplan ) is a French commune with 99 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitania region . It belongs to the Arrondissement Mirande and the municipality association Astarac Arros en Gascogne, founded in 2012 . The inhabitants call themselves Betplanais .

geography

The municipality of Betplan is located in the Armagnac countryside , 26 kilometers north-northeast of Tarbes and 48 kilometers southwest of Auch . The 5.46 km² large municipal area extends over a wooded hill country on the edge of the Arrostal; to the west, the community area touches the right bank of the Arros river , which belongs to the Adour catchment area . The hills in the east of the municipality reach in two places 306 m above sea level, while the Arrostal lies at approx. 167 m above sea level. In addition to the village of Betplan , the community consists of the hamlets of Les Ainats, Bourdillou, Pédaucat, Hourret, L'Arnau, Louiset, Passariou and Sarrayre . Betplan is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Malabat in the north, Troncens in the northeast, Laguian-Mazous in the east, Villecomtal-sur-Arros in the south and Haget in the west.

Attractions

Betplan Castle

The origins of the Saint-Laurent church date back to the 13th century. Inside it houses a remarkable altarpiece and a bell wall with three niches.

Betplan Castle dates back to the early 17th century and consists of a rectangular main building flanked by four square towers, all of which are covered with steep slate roofs. The main facade, which is preceded by a terrace with balustrades along its entire length , presents an imposing and heavy portal with two Doric pilasters that support an entablature. The castle has been designated as a monument historique since 1949 .

A pigeon tower has been preserved near the castle. In the village of Betplan there is a large wayside cross between the church and the town hall.

Economy and Infrastructure

There are seven farms in the municipality (grain cultivation, cattle breeding, dairy farming).

The small-scale vineyards on the outskirts of the village of Betplan lie outside the Côtes de Saint-Mont wine-growing region .

Betplan is located on the D38 from Marciac to Villecomtal-sur-Arros . Immediately south of Betplan, the RN 21 runs from Auch to Tarbes .
