Mont-de-Marrast ( Gascon : Lo Mont de Marrast) is a French commune with 111 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitanie region (until 2015 Midi-Pyrénées ); it belongs to the Arrondissement Mirande and the municipality of Astarac Arros en Gascogne . The residents call themselves Montois / Montoises .
geography
Mont-de-Marrast is located around 15 kilometers south-southwest of Mirande and 29 kilometers northeast of Tarbes in the south of the Gers department. The community consists of hamlets, numerous scattered settlements and individual farmsteads.
Neighboring communities are Sainte-Dode in the north, Montaut in the northeast, Barcugnan in the east, Manas-Bastanous in the southeast and south, Sarraguzan in the southwest and Sadeillan in the west and northwest.
history
In the Middle Ages, the community was in the Kastlanei Moncassin of the county of Astarac in the historic Gascon region and shared its fate. Mont-de-Marrast belonged to the Mirande district from 1793 to 1801. The municipality has been part of the Mirande arrondissement since 1801 and belonged to the Miélan canton from 1793 to 2015 .
Population development
The population development is typical for a French rural community. The developments between 1793 and 1841 with growth and the first wave of emigration up to 1881 are normal. In the following five years the population rose sharply, followed by a second wave of emigration up to 2006. In recent years the population has grown again significantly.
