Estampes is a French commune with 159 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Mirande and the canton of Mirande-Astarac (until 2015: canton of Miélan ).

The inhabitants are called Estampais and Estampaises .

Estampes is located about 17 kilometers southwest of Mirande in the historic province of Armagnac on the southern border with the neighboring Hautes-Pyrénées department .

Waters

Estampes is located in the catchment area of the Adour River .

The Bouès , a tributary of the Arros (river) , flows along the border with the neighboring municipalities of Miélan and Castex to the east. The Ruisseau de la Bernaquère and the Ruisseau de Rieuzan are left tributaries of the Bouès, cross the area of ​​the municipality and there flow into the Bouès.

In 1822 the former municipality of Castelfranc was incorporated.

Population development

After the records began, the number of inhabitants rose to a high of 655 by the middle of the 19th century. In the following period, the size of the community decreased with intermittent recovery phases until today.
