Heritage Malta ( Maltese Patrimonju Malta ) is a state institution for the preservation of the cultural heritage of Malta and for nature protection . It is based in the former British naval hospital in Kalkara , Villa Bighi .
tasks
The mission of Heritage Malta is to ensure that the elements of the cultural heritage of the Maltese islands entrusted to it are protected and made available to the public. Heritage Malta also has a department for the training of restorers and conservationists.
history
Heritage Malta was created by the 2002 “Law on Cultural Heritage” and replaced the former Museum Department of Malta . Heritage Malta was initially charged with managing museums, archaeological sites and their collections. The authority's powers were expanded in 2005 when it took over the former Malta Center for Restoration and became the national authority responsible for the preservation of cultural property.
