Freda Lingstrom

Freda Lingstrom (born July 23, 1893 in Chelsea, London ; died April 15, 1989 in Chartwell , Great Britain) was an artist , illustrator and author .

Live and act

Lingstrom was born the daughter of the engraver George Lingstrom and Alice Clarey Anniss. Her paternal grandparents were Swedes. Her career began with studying at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London , her first assignment being from Alf Cooke's London works. She then worked for Carlton Studios and Norfolk, but then decided to go freelance. From 1922 she worked for various railway companies, u. a. the London & North Eastern Railway and the Norwegian State Railways and was commissioned by the Norwegian and Swedish governments to design the Scandinavian tourism promotion for England. In addition, she often designed book covers and posters and worked as a designer and member of the editorial team for children's magazines.

BBC Children's Television

She was employed by the BBC in 1940 , promoted to deputy director of BBC Schools Broadcasting in 1947 and director of BBC Children's Television in 1951 . She participated in numerous children's programs until 1955. Together with her friend Maria Bird , she created Andy Pandy and The Flower Pot Men .
