London North Eastern Railway

The London North Eastern Railway is a British railway company that, following its formal takeover on June 24, 2018, has been operating intercity traffic along the East Coast Main Line since June 25, 2018 . It took over the locomotives and coaches ( Intercity 125 and Intercity 225 ) from its predecessor Virgin Trains East Coast , and new multiple units from Hitachi are to be put into service as part of the Intercity Express program in December 2018 , which will operate under the product name Azuma . After the East Coast, LNER is the second company in this franchise that is not in private hands but belongs to the British state. The reason for the forced takeover were financial difficulties at Stagecoach, the majority owner of Virgin Trains East Coast.
