First Capital Connect was a UK rail company and subsidiary of the First Group until September 2014 .

history

Thameslink train leaving Blackfriars station shortly before entering the Snow Hill tunnel

First Capital Connect started operations on April 1, 2006. The company combined the route networks of two companies whose concessions expired on that day: The Thameslink network and West Anglia Great Northern (wagn) on the East Coast Main Line from London towards Peterborough , Cambridge and King's Lynn .

The two route networks were merged with a view to the Thameslink expansion program (formerly Thameslink 2000). The plan was to increase capacity and better link the former wagn network with Thameslink. The merger was intended to ensure that the operational management of both sub-networks can be standardized until the expansion program is completed.

The concession ran until September 13, 2014. On May 23, 2014 it was announced that operations would be transferred to Govia Thameslink Railway .
