Virgin Trains East Coast was a British rail company operating the InterCity East Coast franchise on the East Coast Main Line between London , Yorkshire , the North East and Scotland . The concession was taken over by East Coast . The work started on March 1, 2015. The company was a joint venture between the Stagecoach Group (90%) and the Virgin Group (10%).

Since the company was unable to meet its financial obligations, the contract was terminated early on June 23, 2018; the traffic was transferred to the public sector under the LNER brand .
