c2c is a private British railway company which, through its subsidiary Trenitalia UK, belongs to the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane group of companies (railways of the State of Italy). It operates all trains on the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway , which run from the Fenchurch Street terminus in the City of London along the north bank of the Thames to Essex . Destinations are Tilbury , Southend-on-Sea and Shoeburyness . Until January 10, 2017, c2c was part of the National Express Group .

history

In May 1996, Prism Rail acquired the franchise and operated the sub-network under the name LTS Rail . The National Express Group took over Prism Rail in September 2000 and introduced the brand name c2c in 2002 . The franchise is valid until 2011 and will then be advertised again. The maintenance of almost all stations is carried out by c2c itself. Exceptions are Fenchurch Street ( Network Rail ) and West Ham ( London Underground ). In contrast to other railway companies in the London area, c2c allows the use of the Oyster Card chip card . With a rate of 95.3%, c2c was the UK's most punctual rail company in 2005.

On January 11, 2017, the then parent company National Express Group announced that it would sell the c2c franchise to Trenitalia UK and thus completely say goodbye to the British railway market, this purchase was completed on January 10, 2017.

offer

Outside of rush hour, eight trains leave Fenchurch Street every hour and run to Barking and Upminster ( London Underground terminus ) on the same route. There it is divided into four different lines: two trains per hour run to Rainham , two to Southend Central and four to Shoeburyness . During rush hour, the number of trains increases significantly, with individual trains only stopping at the most important stations.
