Basildon is a town in the district of the same name in Essex in eastern England . It is located around 40 km northeast of London .

history

Basildon was mentioned as a Behoter in the Domesday Book as early as 1086 . Near the village, in Billericay's Norsey Woods, King Richard II finally defeated the militants of the Peasant Uprising of 1381 on June 28th. The Pilgrim Fathers also met in Billericay in 1620 before their departure for the New World. In 1855 the parish of Pitsea received a railway connection, in 1888 the stations in Laindon and Wickford Railway were built. In the area of ​​today's Basildon there were still just 707 inhabitants in 1851, in 1921, after the telephone connection was also available, there were 4,489, ten years later 12,986. In 1936 the traffic connection was improved by the A137 from London to Southend-on-Sea . In 1946 a football club was founded in Basildon and a cricket club in 1948.

In 1949 Basildon received the status of a "New Town", i. That is, it was promoted as a planned city with the aim of facilitating the settlement, especially of Londoners. This new town grew out of the old parish of Basildon and the smaller parishes of Pitsea, Laindon, and Vange.
