Andrew John Fletcher (born July 8, 1961 in Nottingham , England ), called "Fletch", is an English musician and member of the synth-pop band Depeche Mode .

Career

Andrew Fletcher grew up with his three siblings Susan, Karen and Simon with their parents Joy and John Fletcher in Basildon (Essex). Fletcher gained his first band experience as an electric bass player together with his school friend Vince Clarke in the group No Romance in China , which was stylistically based on The Cure . In 1979 he switched to the synthesizer and founded the band Composition of Sound with Clarke and Martin Gore . After Dave Gahan joined the band as a singer, they renamed themselves Depeche Mode .

Fletcher took on organizational rather than creative tasks in the band. It is said that he kept the band together in difficult times and, for example, reached a compromise between Gore and Gahan when they argued about who should contribute how many songs to the album Playing the Angel . However, due to disputes between him and Alan Wilder, he separated from Depeche Mode. Fletcher is often accused of not contributing to the band musically. One of the reasons for this is that he is the only member who never wrote a song. In addition, Alan Wilder used to do most of the work in the studio. Since Wilder is no longer there, Fletcher has been much more involved in the studio work. For example, he played the bass for A Pain That I'm Used To and The Sinner in Me by Playing the Angel .

In 2002 Fletcher founded his own record label Toast Hawaii and has marketed the band Client ever since . In October 2006, however, the electro-pop band left the label. With Client being the label's only commercial band, Toast Hawaii's future is currently uncertain. Occasionally Fletcher performs as a DJ .

Andrew Fletcher has been married to Gráinne Mullan since 1991. They have two children together.
