Violator (English for: " Pest ") is the seventh studio album by the British synth-pop band Depeche Mode . It was released in 1990 and is the band's best-selling album to date with over 15 million units sold worldwide. In the Rolling Stone magazine published in 2003 " List of the 500 best albums of all time " it is led at number 342.

The worldwide World Violation Tour followed the album . Since then, Personal Jesus and Enjoy the Silence have always been part of Depeche Mode's live concerts.

Music genre

With the album the band began to incorporate unfamiliar acoustic guitars into their pieces. The first single Personal Jesus surprised with the rocking guitar playing. The song was later covered by Johnny Cash , Marilyn Manson , Placebo and more recently by Nina Hagen and Def Leppard . The song also became the most successful 12 "single in the history of the Warner Bros. music group. The very successful single Enjoy the Silence , the band's best-known song , is also influenced by guitars .

The lyrics are from Martin Gore, who also did the vocals for the songs Sweetest Perfection and Blue Dress . All other tracks were sung by Dave Gahan as usual. The album contains two interludes : Interlude # 2 - Crucified after Enjoy the Silence and Interlude # 3 after Blue Dress ( Interlude # 1 is on Music for the Masses , Interlude # 4 on Songs of Faith and Devotion ). In Crucified heavily distorted voice of Andy Fletcher is heard, pronounce the just word.
