Violator (English for: " Pest ") is the seventh studio album by the British synth-pop band Depeche Mode . It was released in 1990 and is the band's best-selling album to date with over 15 million units sold worldwide. In the Rolling Stone magazine published in 2003 " List of the 500 best albums of all time " it is led at number 342.
The worldwide World Violation Tour followed the album . Since then, Personal Jesus and Enjoy the Silence have always been part of Depeche Mode's live concerts.

With the album the band began to incorporate unfamiliar acoustic guitars into their pieces. The first single Personal Jesus surprised with the rocking guitar playing. The song was later covered by Johnny Cash , Marilyn Manson , Placebo and more recently by Nina Hagen and Def Leppard . The song also became the most successful 12 "single in the history of the Warner Bros. music group. The very successful single Enjoy the Silence , the band's best-known song , is also influenced by guitars .
