Construction Time Again is the third studio album by British synthpop band Depeche Mode from 1983.
With this album, the band used the sampling technique that is common today, but was still young at the time , in which individual sounds (samples) are first recorded and then combined to form a song. The song Pipeline , for example, from whose text the name of the album is taken, consists almost entirely of samples. Not only instruments were recorded, but also noises that are generated by everyday objects and especially metal objects. These samples were played on the “ Synclavier ” computer musical instrument from the manufacturer “New England Digital”. This sound also shaped the following Depeche Mode albums.
Construction Time Again is the first album that Alan Wilder was involved in as a band member. It was recorded by John Foxx in The Garden Studio in London and mixed in the Hansa Studios in Berlin . The band kept returning to Berlin for later albums.
