A Broken Frame ( German: A broken frame) is the second album by the British synthpop band Depeche Mode . It was made without Vince Clarke , who left the band in late 1981, but also without Alan Wilder . Wilder already supported Depeche Mode on a tour, but he was not involved in the recordings for A Broken Frame , so that the band was a trio during the making of the album.
