Saint-Ost ( Occitan : Sent Haust ) is a French commune with 87 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitanie region (until 2015 Midi-Pyrénées ). It belongs to the Arrondissement Mirande and the municipality association Astarac Arros en Gascogne, founded in 2012 . The inhabitants call themselves Saint-Ostois .

geography

The municipality of Saint-Ost is located in the Astarac countryside in the east of the historic province of Gascony , 40 kilometers northeast of Tarbes and about 100 kilometers southwest of Toulouse . The Grande Baïse flows through the 6.84 km² municipal area . The river Baïsole , which flows parallel to the north, forms the western boundary of the municipality. To the east of both rivers are two narrow mountain ranges in a north-south direction, which slope steeply to the west and gently to the east. At the eastern border of the municipality, the highest point in Saint-Ost is reached at 290 meters above sea level. In addition to the remains of alluvial forest on the rivers and the wooded steep slopes, the terrain consists mainly of fields and pastures. The community consists of numerous individual farms and hamlets, there is no distinctive village center. The largest hamlets are Campardon, Dupin, Cabos, Compans, Daran, Monlaur, Le Paysan, Vidouze, Le Janot, Taran, Desangles, Le Chec, Le Biec, Le Manciet, Fitère, Carreau, Méninot, Le Poucouret, Christi, Le Finat and Le Rentoy .

Saint-Ost is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Viozan in the north, Aujan-Mournède in the east, Ponsan-Soubiran in the southeast, Cuélas in the south and Sainte-Aurence-Cazaux in the west.
