The municipality of Barcelonne-du-Gers is located in the French region of Occitania (previously Midi-Pyrénées ) in the Gers department . The long-distance hiking trail GR 65 , which largely follows the historical course of the French Way of St. James, Via Podiensis , leads past the town with its 1,372 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) .

geography

Barcelonne-du-Gers is located in southwest France, in the heart of Gascony on the edge of the Armagnac , in the Adour river plain , at the confluence of its left tributary, the Lées . It is the neighboring municipality of the small town of Aire-sur-l'Adour . The next larger town is Mont-de-Marsan , which can be reached in a north-westerly direction via the D30 after about 35 kilometers of road. The nearest major French cities are Toulouse (135 km) in the east and Bordeaux (129 km) in the north.

history

Barcelonne-du-Gers was as Bastide in 1316 by Philip V founded. The Order of Malta ran a hospice there . The bastide was named Barcelonne in 1346. During the Wars of Religion , the village was completely destroyed in 1569 and 1591.
