Way of St. James ( Via Podiensis )

There is only very limited accommodation in Bessuéjouls. The next larger town on the Way of St. James is Estaing am Lot. The actual path only leads past the Saint-Pierre church and then turns to the northwest without crossing the town center.

Attractions

  • The Saint-Pierre church is built in Romanesque style from the red sandstone of the region. The actually simple church houses a special feature in its tower. The Michaelis Chapel located there can be reached via two narrow spiral stairs. This chapel, built in Romanesque and pre-Romanesque architectural styles, contains an altar from the Carolingian period, the 9th century. The altar is decorated by Archangel Michael as a dragon slayer and another angel with a banner. The chapel is designed as an arcade vault, the capitals are decorated with mythical creatures, angels and filigree Carolingian braided ribbon patterns.
