It belongs to the arrondissement of Rodez and the canton of Tarn et Causses (until 2015: canton of Campagnac ). The inhabitants are called capelains .

La Capelle-Bonance is located in the valley of the Lot River in the south Massif Central , between the Causse de Sévérac plateau in the south and the Aubrac in the north. The landscape around is also called Pays d'Olt . The municipality is part of the Grands Causses Regional Nature Park . La Capelle-Bonance is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint Geniez d'Olt et d'Aubrac in the north and west, Pomayrols in the north and northeast, Saint-Laurent-d'Olt in the east, Campagnac in the southeast and Saint-Saturnin-de-Lenne .
