Bozouls ( Occitan: Boason ) is a French commune with 2,871 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Aveyron département in the Occitanie region (until 2015 Midi-Pyrénées ); it belongs to the arrondissement of Rodez and the canton of Causse-Comtal , before it was the capital of the canton of Bozouls .
geography
The municipality is located in the Causse countryside , north of the Causse du Comtal , around 15 kilometers northeast of Rodez . Neighboring municipalities of Bozouls are Bessuéjouls in the north, Espalion in the northeast, Gabriac in the east, Bertolène in the southeast, Montrozier in the south, Rodelle in the west and Sébrazac in the northwest.
The municipality is crossed from southeast to northwest by the Dourdou de Conques river, which has dug deep gorges into the karst rock of the Causse ( Gorges du Dourdou ). The town of Bozouls itself is located on a narrow loop of the Dourdou de Conques , with the castle with the old town within the river bend on the left bank of the river, the rest of the city on the right bank, where the houses are located up to the edge of the over 100 meter high cliff extend.
Transport links
The main traffic axis in road traffic is the departmental road D988, which comes from Rodez , turns west in Bozouls and connects to the A75 motorway at Banassac . In the urban area of Bozouls , the D920 branches off, which leads north to Aurillac .
