economy

The place Brommat served for a long time the only agriculturally oriented and largely self-sufficient villages ( hamlets ) and individual farms in the area as a craft, trade and service center. Since the middle of the 20th century tourism has played a not insignificant role for the economic life of the place in the form of the rental of holiday apartments ( gîtes ).

history

Brommat is already mentioned in Carolingian times and later formed part of the Carladez , part of the Rouergue, which was part of the Kingdom of Mallorca from 1276 to 1344 . In the Hundred Years War (1337-1453) the place was spared because of its northern location. In 1643, the French King Louis XIII. the area as a fiefdom to the Monaco-based Grimaldi family , who ruled until the French Revolution .

Attractions

Château de Castel Noël
  • The small Gothic parish church of Saint-Anthime-et-Saint-Saturnin was built in the late 15th century on the site of a previous Romanesque building that had been demolished; apparently it belonged to a priory of the Abbey of Sainte Foy in Conques . In 1582 it was partially destroyed during the Huguenot Wars (1562–1598); Extensive repair work on the vaults is documented for the year 1601 . The sacristy behind the flat apse dates back to 1822. The church was recognized in 1927 as a monument historique .
  • A few meters north of the church is a multi-storey residential building from the 15th century, which was recognized as a monument historique in 1928 .
  • Not far from the town, with the exception of the corner stones and the mighty round tower, the Château de Castel Noël , which is built from largely unworked natural stones and is privately owned.
Albinhac
Church Saint-Roch
  • The church of Saint-Roch was built in the 15th century and was also dependent on the Abbey of Conques. The basement of the bell tower shows several raised blind arches; the upper floor is wide open. The apse of the church is broken polygonally. Inside there are several interesting stone sculptures, including a cross-legged skeleton symbolizing death. The church building was classified as a monument historique in 1933 .
  • The Château d'Albinhac, made of largely unworked quarry stone, comes from roughly the same construction period as the church and probably served as the residential building of the local prior. It shows several round towers and pepper boxes in the building corners as well as a large residential wing ( corps de logis ) built on a rectangular floor plan in the center. The building is privately owned and was recognized as a Monument historique in 1992 .
Rueyres
  • The Romanesque church of Saint-Cyrice-et-Sainte-Juliette was later rebuilt; the apse , which was stabilized by buttresses and optically structured and also adorned by a surrounding console frieze , was retained. The church building was classified as a monument historique in 1995 .
