history
The medieval town, which grew concentrically around a castle from the 11th and 12th centuries, is mentioned in 1383 as Sancta Eulalia Rippe Oltis . Eulalia of Mérida , which has been celebrated in France since the 9th century in the so-called Eulalia sequence , is thus the patron saint of the place. Olt (more precisely Òlt) is the Occitan name for the river Lot and Rippe is probably to be translated as “bank”.
