family

Ernst August was the son of the garden artist Martin Charbonnier , who presumably came from France, and the younger brother of Georg Ludwig Charbonnier . His son was Matthias Charbonnier .

Career and work

Ernst August Charbonnier was baptized in Osnabrück, where his father was in the service of the future Elector Ernst August and his wife Sophie von der Pfalz and was responsible for the residential garden there.

In 1713 Ernst August Charbonnier worked in the French Garden in Celle . Only a few years later, in 1717, he was appointed his father's successor for the Great Garden in Herrenhausen .

In 1720 Charbonnier laid out the garden at Montbrillant Castle for the Lord Chamberlain Ernst August von Platen (later the Welfengarten ).

In 1726/27 Charbonnier created the Herrenhäuser Allee from 1,300 linden trees as a visible connection between the Leineschloss in the city of Hanover and the summer residence in the Herrenhausen Gardens . At the same time, he created the avenue in the Berggarten , which today is the driveway leading from Herrenhäuser Straße to the Welfen mausoleum and is the property of the Welfenhaus .

Ernst August Charbonnier died in Calenberger Neustadt in 1747 .
