Joannes-Armandus de Bessuéjouls de Roquelaure , also Joannes-Armandus de Bessuéjouls Count of Roquelaure, (born February 24, 1721 in Roquelaure , Lassouts , France , † April 23, 1818 in Paris ) was Archbishop of Mechlin .

Life

Joannes-Armandus de Bessuéjouls de Roquelaure came from the noble family of the Bessuéjouls. The family's ancestral home was Roquelaure Castle in Lassouts in Midi-Pyrénées , which became the property of the Bessuéjouls family in the 16th century.

Originally Canon of the Chapter of S. Denis and also abbot of the Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Germer-de-Fly , he was the first chaplain of Kings Louis XV. and Louis XVI. Member of the Council of State and, from 1771, of the Académie française , he was arrested at Arras during the French Revolution . He later became an officer in the Legion of Honor . Appointed Bishop of Senlis on March 17, 1754 , he received papal confirmation from Pope Benedict XIV on May 20, 1754. He was consecrated as a bishop on June 16, 1754 by the Archbishop of Paris , Christophe de Beaumont ; Co- consecrators were Charles de Grimaldi d'Antibes , Bishop of Rodez , and Arthur-Richard Dillon , Bishop of Évreux .

After the bishopric of Senlis in the on September 21, 1801 Diocese of Beauvais was incorporated and he had renounced the office, he was on 9 April 1802 by Napoleon as archbishop of Mechelen appointed and on 14 April 1802 by Pope Pius VII. As archbishop approved. On March 1, 1808, at the age of 87, he resigned as archbishop.
