The Chapelle de la Vierge

The founding of the abbey in the 7th century is attributed to the high Franconian nobility, St. Germer who died around 658. In the 9th and 10th centuries, the abbey was destroyed during Norman invasions. The abbey also suffered during the Hundred Years War . In 1644 the abbey passed to the Congregation of Saint-Maur . During the French Revolution , the monastery was sold as a national good. The abbey buildings were demolished in 1790. The north transept was renewed in 1808. The abbey church and chapel are used as a parish church.

The high-Gothic, single-aisled Chapelle de la Vierge (Sainte-Chapelle) connected to the abbey church via a narrow passage was built on in the east between 1259 and 1267, modeled on the castle chapel of Saint-Germain-en-Laye and the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris . It “shows the handwriting or at least the direct influence of Pierre de Montreuil ”. The rose window on the west facade continues the rose on the north transept facade of Reims Cathedral .
