Barcugnan is a French commune with 107 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Mirande and the canton of Mirande-Astarac (until 2015: canton of Miélan ).

The inhabitants are called Barcugnanais and Barcugnanaises .

Barcugnan is located around 15 kilometers south of Mirande in the historic province of Armagnac on the southern border with the neighboring Hautes-Pyrénées department .

  • the Haget, which rises in Barcugnan.

history

Before 1806, the former municipality of Montagnan was incorporated, in 1822 the former municipality of Saint-Trailles.

Population development

With the incorporation of the former municipality of Saint-Trailles, the number of inhabitants reached its highest level of around 660. In the period that followed, the size of the municipality decreased with intermittent recovery phases until today.
