Clermont-Pouyguillès is a French commune with 159 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Mirande and the canton of Mirande-Astarac (until 2015: canton of Mirande ).

The inhabitants are called Clermontois and Clermontoises .

Clermont-Pouyguillès is about eleven kilometers southeast of Mirande in the historic province of Armagnac .

history

Before 1806, the former municipality of Clermont-Derrière was incorporated, in 1822 the former municipalities of Bascous, Nouilhan and Pouyguillès. Since then the municipality has been called Clermont-Pouyguillès.

Population development

With the incorporation of the earlier municipalities, the number of inhabitants reached its highest level of 440 by the middle of the 19th century. In the following period the size of the municipality sank with interim recovery phases until the 1970s to its lowest level of around 145 inhabitants before it grew slightly and has stabilized at a level of around 160 inhabitants since the 1990s.
