Moncassin is a French commune with 134 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Mirande and the canton of Mirande-Astarac (until 2015: canton of Mirande ).

The inhabitants are called Moncassinois and Moncassinoises .

Moncassin is about nine kilometers southeast of Mirande in the historic province of Armagnac .

Moncassin is located in the catchment area of the river Garonne .

The Petite Baïse , a tributary of the Baïse , crosses the territory of the municipality together with its tributaries,

  • the Ruisseau de Matélous, which rises in Moncassin,
  • the Ruisseau de Lasmoulines and the
  • the Ruisseau de Sentagne.

In addition, tributaries of the Sousson irrigate the community,

  • the Ruisseau du Lussian,
  • the Ruisseau de Terremont, which rises in Moncassin, and
  • the Ruisseau du Galinon, which also rises in Moncassin.

Population development

After the beginning of the records, the population rose to a high of around 530 by the middle of the 19th century. In the following period, the size of the community fell to its lowest level with around 120 inhabitants, with intermittent recovery phases until the turn of the millennium, before a brief growth phase the number of Residents raised to a level of around 135 residents.
