Esclassan-Labastide ( Gascon : Esclassan e La Bastida) is a French commune with 358 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Gers department in the Occitania region (until 2015 Midi-Pyrénées ); it belongs to the arrondissement of Mirande and the municipal association Val de Gers . The residents call themselves Esclassanais / Esclassanaises .

geography

Esclassan-Labastide is located around 16 kilometers southeast of Mirande and 25 kilometers south of Auch in the south of the Gers department. The community consists of the two places Esclassan and Labastide, numerous scattered settlements and individual farms.

Neighboring communities are Lourties-Monbrun in the north, Masseube in the northeast and east, Panassac in the southeast, Samaran in the south and southwest and Saint-Arroman in the west.

history

In the Middle Ages, Esclassan-Labastide was in the Kastlanei Moncassin within the county of Astarac in the historic Gascony region and shared its fate. Esclassan-Labastide belonged to the Mirande district from 1793 to 1801. Esclassan-Labastide has been part of the Mirande arrondissement since 1801 and belonged to the canton of Masseube from 1793 to 2015 . The municipality has only existed in its current form since 1822. At that time, the then municipality Esclassan (1821: 282 inhabitants) merged with the municipalities of Labastide (1821: 158 inhabitants) and Lalanne-Recané (1821: 217 inhabitants) to form today's municipality.
