Matteo Signani (* 5. June 1979 in Cesena , Italy ) is an Italian professional boxer and current European Champion (EBU) in the middleweight division .

Boxing career

Matteo Signani started boxing at the age of 14 at a boxing club in Santarcangelo di Romagna . His greatest success as an amateur boxer was winning the silver medal in the middleweight division at the 2003 Italian Championships. He made his professional debut on April 1, 2007.

After five wins, two defeats and one draw, he boxed for the Italian championship title in October 2008, but lost the judges' majority against Gaetano Nespro. He won the rematch, and with it the title, in January 2010 through technical knockout (TKO) in the eighth round and defended the belt against Lorenzo Cosseddu and Giovanni de Carolis , as well as in rematches against Nespro and Cosseddu. Only in March 2012 did he lose the title to Simone Rotolo, but won it back in July 2013 against Stefano Loriga.

On May 2nd, 2014 he boxed for the vacant championship of the European Union of the European association EBU against István Szili and reached a draw. However, he won the title in the next attempt on December 6, 2014 against Ahmed Rifaie unanimously on points. In his next fight on August 8, 2015, he defeated Rafael Pintos in the fight for the title WBA -Intercontinental by TKO in the eighth round.

On December 3, 2016, he boxed for the first time for the EBU European Championship, but lost to Emanuele Blandamura due to a split decision . He contested his next title fight on August 12, 2018 and secured the IBF -Latino title through TKO in the ninth round against Riccardo Lecca.

On October 11, 2019, he boxed again for the EBU European title and won by split decision against Gevorg Khatchikian.
