István Szili (born December 26, 1982 in Szombathely ) is a Hungarian professional middleweight boxer . He lives and trains in Switzerland .

Amateur career

The roughly 1.78 m tall left-wing boom began boxing in 1995 in Kőszeg and played 221 amateur fights, including 165 wins and 5 draws. He was Hungarian junior flyweight champion in 1998, Hungarian student bantamweight champion in 1999, Hungarian vice junior lightweight champion in 2000, Hungarian welterweight champion in 2005, Hungarian welterweight vice champion in 2006 and Hungarian middleweight champion in 2007.

His greatest successes were the second place in welterweight at the EU championships in 2005 in Cagliari (final defeat against Neil Perkins ), as well as the gold medal in welterweight at the EU championships in 2006 in Pécs (final win against Bülent Ulusoy ). In March / April 2008 he took part in the two European Olympic qualification tournaments in Pescara and Athens in order to fight for a starting place for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing . He defeated Alexander Rubjuk from Estonia, Nikolajs Grišuņins from Latvia and Victor Cotiujanschi from Moldova, but suffered defeats against the Greek Georgios Gazisden, the later Olympic champion James DeGale and the World Cup winner Andranik Hakobjan .
