Gökalp Özekler (born January 30, 1982 in Kiel ) is a Turkish professional boxer who trains and lives in Hamburg.

amateur

As a boxing amateur, Gökalp Özekler was several times North German champion and international North German champion, as well as Turkish runner-up. As a result, he was called up for the Turkish national team, but was unable to fight for it when he switched to the professional camp. He won 65 of 78 fights.

He also boxed for three years for the first division club SV Motor Babelsberg eV in the middleweight -75 kg.

Professional career

In 2009 Gökalp Özekler switched to the professional camp at EC Boxing Promotion Hamburg and has been trained by the former European champion Oktay Urkal since then . After only eight development fights, Gökalp was able to prevail on April 9, 2011 in Hamburg with a technical knockout victory in the first round against Pietro D'Alessio and thus became the new international German middleweight champion.

On June 11, 2011 he suffered the first defeat of his professional career; he lost in the fight for the European Championship of the WBO by technical knockout in round 8 against Rafael Bejaran from the Dominican Republic. On November 18 of the same year, he defeated the former Serbian and Austrian champion Gogi Knežević by tKo in round 8 and thus won the title of Mediterranean champion of the WBC association in the middleweight division. He defended this title for the first time on May 11, 2012 on points against Mouez Fhima from France.

On September 28, 2012 in Göttingen he defeated the Russian Albert Airapetian (20-2) by unanimous decision on points and became the International German Middleweight Champion. On August 23, 2013 he boxed in Romania for the Intercontinental Championship of the WBO in the middleweight division, but reached only one draw against the Hungarian István Szili (17-0), so the title remained vacant .

In December 2016 he lost to Poland's Robert Talarek (16-12) by knockout.
