Ivan Sergijowitsch Senaj ( Ukrainian Іван Сергійович Сенай ; English Ivan Senay ; born April 3, 1987 in Krywyj Rih , Ukrainian SSR , USSR ) is a Ukrainian boxer . He was European Middleweight Champion in Liverpool in 2008 .

Career

Ivan Senaj began boxing as a teenager in his hometown of Krywyj Rih and developed into an excellent boxer as a junior. In 2004 he became Ukrainian junior champion and started at the age of 17 at the Junior World Championship in Jeju, South Korea . In the light welterweight he achieved victories over Sung Jong-Park, South Korea u. Mark Jason Melligen from the Philippines . In the quarter-finals he was defeated by Armen Ovsepjan from Russia and finished 5th.

In 2005 he won the bronze medal at the European Junior Championships in Tallinn in the welterweight division . After three wins he was defeated there in the semifinals against Norbert Harcsa from Hungary just on points (38:41). In 2006 he was at the Algirdas Schozikas tournament in Kaunas welterweight winner with a point win in the final over Ernestas Dapkus from Lithuania .

He also achieved a remarkable tournament victory at the 41st Makar Mazny Memorial in Mariupol / Ukraine , where he started in the middleweight division. He won there over the Russian Roman Kostin by breaking off in the 2nd round and then beat the two Irish top boxers Darren O'Neill on points and Darren Sutherland by breaking off in the 3rd round.
