Bülent Ulusoy (born January 7, 1978 in Akabat , Kocaeli ) is a former Turkish boxer. He started among other things at two Olympic Games, five world and seven European championships.

Boxing career

The 1.78 m tall Bülent Ulusoy, who trained in Trabzon , won the 3rd European Cadet Championships in Patras, Greece in October 1994 . He defeated Dominik Wencel from Poland , Daniel Güngör from Sweden and Ronny Weber from Germany in the lightweight . In June 1995 he won the light welterweight division at the 14th European Junior Championships in Siófok, Hungary . He won against Zdravko Žugelj from Croatia , Mika Saartila from Finland , Pasquale Abis from Italy and Gerard Murphy from Scotland . At the 9th Junior World Championships in Havana in 1996 , however, he was eliminated in the preliminary round against Timur Nergadze from Russia .

In June 1997 he won a bronze welterweight medal at the 13th Mediterranean Games in Bari after he was eliminated in the semifinals against Laureano Leyva from Spain . In October of the same year he took part in the 9th World Championships in Budapest , but lost there in the preliminary round to Francisco Calderón from Colombia . In May 1998 he advanced to the quarterfinals of the 32nd European Championships in Minsk , where he was defeated by the Belarusian Wadim Mesga.

In May 2000 he was able to win the 33rd European welterweight championships in Tampere, Finland . He beat Steven Küchler from Germany, Riku Lumberg from Finland, Darius Jasevicius from Lithuania and Valeri Braschnik from Ukraine . He then started at the 27th Olympic Games in Sydney , where he reached 8th place. After victorious duels against Bae Jin-Seok from South Korea and Dante Craig from the USA , he finally lost to Vitalie Grușac from the Republic of Moldova .

At the 11th World Championships in Belfast in June 2001 , he won a bronze medal in the light middleweight division. He prevailed against Qi Jing from the People's Republic of China , Khotso Motau from South Africa and Jean Pascal from Canada before losing to Marian Simion from Romania in the semifinals . In September of the same year he also won the 14th Mediterranean Games in Tunis with a final victory against Benamar Meskine from Algeria .

In 2002 he came at the 34th European Championships in Perm against Mirosław Nowosada from Poland and Konstantin Janowski from Israel in the quarter-finals, where he was defeated by the Russian Andrei Mishin . In June 2003 he won the 1st EU welterweight championship in Strasbourg , where he was able to prevail against Darren Barker from England, Donatas Bondorovas from Lithuania and Xavier Noël from France. The following month, he took part in the 12th World Championships in Bangkok , where he lost to the Cuban Lorenzo Aragón in the second preliminary round .

In 2004 he defeated Predrag Radošević from Montenegro at the 35th European Championships in Pula before he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Olexander Bokalo from Ukraine. For this he again won the 2nd EU Championships in Madrid and took part in the 28th Olympic Games in Athens , where he defeated Ellis Chibuye from Zambia and after the subsequent defeat against Schersod Husanow from Uzbekistan reached 9th place.

In 2005 he won the welterweight division with wins against Zoran Mitrović from Serbia, Rached Mardassi from Tunisia, Choayb Oussaci from Algeria and Xavier Noël from France, the 15th Mediterranean Games in Almería . At the 13th World Championships of the same year in Mianyang , he lost again to Vitali Grusac . In 2006 he came in welterweight by victories against Dejan Milićević from Austria , Xavier Noël from France and Ryan Pickard from England in the final of the 4th EU championships in Pécs , where he had to admit defeat to the Hungarian István Szili . At the 36th European Championships in Plovdiv , he beat Jaoid Chiguer from France in the preliminary round , but was defeated by the Russian Andrei Balanow in the second round .

In March 2008 he tried again to qualify for the Olympic Games, but failed in the European eliminations in Pescara against Nikolai Weselow from Belarus.
