Toponymy

The Occitan name of the municipality is called Lombrés, which perhaps has its origin in the Basque-Aquitan word ilumberri ( German  new city ). This fits the theory of a new establishment, after the place Areulet, today a small hamlet of the neighboring municipality of Générest, was abandoned and perhaps for this reason there was no mention of Lombrès in 1387.

The nickname of the residents of the community is Eths rrats-taishons ( German  the badgers ).

Attractions

  • The parish church of Saint-Médard dates from the 17th century. Some Romanesque elements have been preserved. A marble tombstone that originally carried three heads is located near the entrance portal on the south side of the building, where two tombstones from the Gallo-Roman period are also on display. In one of them the heads of a man and a woman are carved into the stone above the inscription. It is the tombstone of a girl and a boy, like the Latin inscription BONNAE TAV RUSTICI 7 RVS. ( a bonna , daughter of Rusticus, and a taurinus , son of Rusticus). The tombstone has been classified as a Monument historique since July 16, 1951 .
