Mauléon-Barousse ( Maulion (de Varossa) in Gaskognisch ) is a French commune with 95 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Bagnères-de-Bigorre and the municipality of Neste Barousse . Its inhabitants call themselves Mauléonnais / Mauléonnaises .
geography
Mauléon-Barousse is located around 50 kilometers southeast of the city of Tarbes in the east of the Hautes-Pyrénées department on the border with the Haute-Garonne department. The community consists of the village of Mauléon-Barousse, a few groups of houses and a few individual farms. Large parts of the community are mountainous and forested. Here L'Ourse de Ferrère and L'Ourse de Sost to the river unite Ourse . The highest point of the municipality is the Soum d'Olives in the southeast of the municipality. In terms of traffic, the community is located on the D925 and D924 only a few kilometers west of the N125 .
history
In 1120 a Freiherr (Baron) Bernard de Mauléon-Soule is mentioned. He is considered to be the founder of the village. The place is mentioned indirectly (de Mauleon) by name for the first time in 1184 in the copy book of Berdoues. In the Middle Ages, Mauléon-Barousse was part of the County of Barousse in the Armagnac region , which in turn was part of the Gascogne province. The place was the center and the administrative seat of the Barousse. The parish belonged to the district La Barthe from 1793 to 1801. In addition, Mauléon-Barousse was the capital of the canton of Mauléon-Barousse from 1793 to 2015 . The municipality has been part of the Bagnères-de-Bigorre arrondissement since 1801.
