Campistrous ( Occitan : Campistrons ) is a French commune with 316 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Bagnères-de-Bigorre . The inhabitants are called Campistrousiens / Campistrousiennes .
geography
Campistrous is located around 26 kilometers east-southeast of the city of Tarbes in the east of the Hautes-Pyrénées department. The community consists of several hamlets and numerous scattered settlements. Campistrous is located on the Lannemezan plateau . The Baïsole crosses the municipality in a northerly direction and forms a natural western municipal boundary. The Baïse forms the eastern boundary of the municipality. In terms of traffic, the community is on the D317. The A64 passes a few kilometers south of the community.
Campistrous is surrounded by the neighboring communities Bonrepos and Galez in the north, Clarens in the northeast, Lannemezan in the east, Capvern in the south and Lagrange , Houeydets and Castelbajac in the west.
history
Finds of a bronze ax and a tumulus confirm an early settlement. The remains of a moth have also been found in Castets . The center of the village used to be near the present cemetery, at Saint-Miqueu. The municipality is mentioned for the first time (indirectly) as de Campristonibus in 1300 . In the Middle Ages, the place was within the Rivière-Verdun region, which in turn was part of the Gascogne province. The municipality belonged to the District of Bagnères from 1793 to 1801. In addition, Campistrous was located within the canton of Lannemezan from 1793 to 2015 . The municipality has been part of the Bagnères-de-Bigorre arrondissement since 1801.
