Uglas ( Occitan : Uglans ) is a French commune with 287 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Bagnères-de-Bigorre . The inhabitants are called Uglasois / Uglasoises .
geography
Uglas is located around 31 kilometers southeast of the city of Tarbes in the east of the Hautes-Pyrénées department on the border with the Haute-Garonne department. The community consists of hamlets and numerous scattered settlements. Uglas lies on the Lannemezan plateau . The Gers crosses the municipality in a north-easterly direction. In terms of traffic, the community is on the D129. The A64 passes a few kilometers south of the community.
Uglas is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Réjaumont in the north, Arné in the northeast, Boudrac , Lécussan and Villeneuve-Lécussan (all in the Haute-Garonne department) in the east, Pinas in the southeast, Lannemezan in the south and Clarens in the west.
history
The municipality is mentioned for the first time (indirectly) as de Ullanis in a tax deed from 1405 . In the Middle Ages, the place was within the Comminges region, which in turn was part of the Gascogne province. The parish belonged to the district La Barthe from 1793 to 1801. In addition, Uglas was a municipality in the canton of Saint-Laurent from 1793 to 1801 and was within the canton of Lannemezan from 1801 to 2015 . The municipality has been part of the Bagnères-de-Bigorre arrondissement since 1801.
