Bulan | ||
Asque | Laborde | |
Esparros |
Arrodets is located in the catchment area of the Adour River . The Arros , one of its tributaries, marks the border to the northern neighboring municipality of Bulan. Two tributaries, the Ruisseaus d'Aube of the same name, cross the area of the municipality and flow into the Arros.
Toponymy
The Occitan name of the community is Eths Arrodèths. Many theories try to explain the origin of the name. The most likely is the derivation from the Gascognischen arròda (which emerged from the Latin rota ) with the diminishing suffix -ellum ( German small mill wheel ). This would also fit the geographic location on two rivers.
The community's nicknames are Eths pachuquèrs ( German the boxwood traders ) and Eths culherèrs ( German the spoon makers (made of beech wood) ).
Toponyms and mentions of Arrodets were:
- Aux Arrodetz, église des Arrodetz (1696, church records ),
- Arrodets (1750, map by Cassini ),
- Paroisse des Arroudets (1775, church records),
- Arrodex , (1793, Notice Communale ),
- Arrodes (1801, Bulletin des lois ).
Population development
After the records began, the number of inhabitants rose by the middle and a second time by the second half of the 19th century to a high of around 235. In the period that followed, the size of the community fell to around 20 inhabitants during short recovery phases by the turn of the millennium , which differs only slightly to this day.
