Pinas ( Occitan : Pinars ) is a French commune with 446 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Bagnères-de-Bigorre . The inhabitants are called Pinassais / Pinassaises .
geography
Pinas is located about 32 kilometers southeast of the city of Tarbes in the east of the Hautes-Pyrénées department on the border with the Haute-Garonne department. The community consists of the village of Pinas and numerous scattered settlements. Pinas is located on the Lannemezan plateau . The Save crosses the municipality in a north-easterly direction. In terms of traffic, the community is on the D24. The A64 crosses the municipality in the south.
Pinas is surrounded by the neighboring communities Villeneuve-Lécussan (in the Haute-Garonne department) in the north-east, east and south-east, Cantaous in the south, Lannemezan in the west and Uglas in the north-west.
history
In the Middle Ages, the place was within the Nébouzan region, which in turn was part of the Gascogne province. The parish belonged to the district La Barthe from 1793 to 1801. In addition, Pinas was a municipality in the canton of Saint-Laurent from 1793 to 1801 and was within the canton of Lannemezan from 1801 to 2015 . The municipality has been part of the Bagnères-de-Bigorre arrondissement since 1801.
