Attractions

Saint-Félix parish church

The origins of the church dedicated to Saint Felix of Valois go back to the 12th century. The semicircular apse and a nave with a barrel vault have been preserved from this Romanesque building . In addition, the bell tower covered with a tent roof above the vestibule seems to come from this period. In the 15th century the building was redesigned. A second nave with a barrel vault was added at the end of the 16th or beginning of the 17th century. At that time the church was embellished with murals in two operations , elements of which can now be seen mainly in the choir . A brotherhood in honor of Saint James the Elder in the church was recorded in 1562. A wall painting depicting Saint Felix and James was uncovered in 1994 during restoration work on the church. At the same time, a painting of Christ crucified with a view of Jerusalem in the background and a false frame came to light. In addition, a wall painting in the vault of the choir with images of Christ as a judge, the evangelists and a tetramorph was visible. In 1637 the Brotherhood of Notre-Dame des Neiges et des saints Fabien et Sébastien was founded. The sacristy was built or rebuilt in 1847, as evidenced by a corresponding inscription on the lintel of a window.

The church has been inscribed as a Monument historique since June 26, 1989 .

Various items of equipment are classified or inscribed as Monument historique :

Granges foraines

These are buildings that function as barns and stables seasonally. The majority of the Granges foraines of Aulon agglomerate in the hamlet of Lurgues at 1,454 m altitude about two kilometers west of the center of the municipality on the edge of the summer pastures. In earlier times they were used in the spring before the herds were driven to the higher pastures and in the autumn before they went down to the village to spend the winter there. A paved road leads to the hamlet today, and the buildings have been converted into holiday homes as part of a municipal development plan.
