Gazave is a French commune with 67 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Hautes-Pyrénées department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Bagnères-de-Bigorre and the canton of Neste, Aure et Louron (until 2015: canton of La Barthe-de-Neste ).

The inhabitants are called Gazavais and Gazavaises .

Gazave is located about 22 kilometers east of Bagnères-de-Bigorre in the Région naturelle Comminges .

Gazave is surrounded by the six neighboring communities:

The highest point of the municipality is on the summit of the Cap d'Estivère ( 1211  m ) on the border with the southern neighboring municipality of Hèches.

Population development

After the beginning of the records, the population rose in the middle of the 19th century to a high of 310. In the following period the size of the community decreased with short and longer recovery phases up to the turn of the millennium to a level of around 65 to 70 inhabitants, which has been maintained since then .
