Aveux ( Gascon Avèus ) is a French municipality with 41 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Hautes-Pyrénées in the region Okzitanien ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Bagnères-de-Bigorre and the municipality of Neste Barousse . Its inhabitants call themselves Aveusiens / Aveusiennes .

geography

Aveux is located around 47 kilometers southeast of the city of Tarbes in the east of the Hautes-Pyrénées department on the border with the Haute-Garonne department. The community consists of the village of Aveux, a few groups of houses and individual farmsteads. Large parts of the mountain slopes are forested. The highest point of the municipality is the Pic de Cau on the southern municipality border. The river Ourse forms the eastern boundary of the municipality. In terms of traffic, the municipality is located on the D160 a few kilometers west of the N125 .

history

The place is first mentioned as De Aveux in 1387 in the church register of Comminges. In the Middle Ages, the place was within the county of Barousse in the Armagnac region , which in turn was part of the Gascogne province. The parish belonged to the district La Barthe from 1793 to 1801. In addition, Aveux was within the canton of Mauléon-Barousse from 1793 to 2015 . The municipality has been part of the Bagnères-de-Bigorre arrondissement since 1801.
