The place is about three kilometers above Saint-Lary-Soulan and 180 km southwest of Toulouse . The community has an extremely low population density, partly due to its altitude.
climate
In Azet there is a mountain climate. It can get very hot in summer.
history
There are few clues about how the place came into being. The church, however, dates from the quarter of the 12th century. In 1887 the community had two primary schools. The main sources of income for the place at that time were mainly pasture farming with cattle breeding. The produce was wool and milk. Wheat, rye, barley, buckwheat or millet as well as beans, peas, potatoes, beets and flax were also grown.
Recreational guests hunted chamois. In 1886/87 there was a typhus epidemic and today's rural exodus of young people is also very hard on the place.
Population development
The development of the population is known from censuses that have been carried out since 1793. In the 21st century, censuses are conducted every five years in municipalities with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants, and every year in larger cities.

Sustainable grazing in the Pyrenees
Thanks to many years of experience in the field of pasture farming, the residents of Azet, with the help of special officials and planners, have succeeded in setting up a project that is supposed to present the economic, ecological and social issues of pasture farming. In a certain house, people are made aware of the subject of pasture management and are also prepared for the work and tasks in pasture management. The “Maison pyrénéenne du pastoralisme” has become a tourist and educational center that is intended to illustrate the use of alpine areas. It is also intended to advertise the promotion of agriculture in the Pyrenees. A museum in this building tells the history of pasture farming in France, but also in the rest of the world. There is also a documentation and seminar center. Cooperation with Mali, Portugal and Spain is important.
