Parish Church of Saint-Nicolas

Parish Church of Saint-Nicolas

The church is inscribed on the Cassini map and dates from the 18th century. It was probably restored in the late 20th century. In 1835, several works are recorded in an acceptance report. The wall surrounding the cemetery was completed and the sacristy was furnished. The stairs to the gallery , the north side chapel , the baptismal font and the confessional are mentioned. In 1877 the parish bought a piece of land to enlarge the cemetery and the architect Labarthe developed the plans for the entrance portal in 1880 . The inscription “Caubin maire, 1883” is engraved on one of the pillars .

The church has a single nave and an east facing . The entrance is on the south side. The square bell tower is covered by a polygonal helmet with raised eaves . As with the entire church, its roof is made of slate . A single window gives light into the interior of the church on the north side, one in the longitudinal axis in the choir and two more on the south side. The frames of the windows are provided with exposed brickwork , otherwise all walls are plastered.

The nave and the choir are provided with a segment-arched barrel vault or a boiler vault. The ceiling is equipped with paneling . In the western part, a staircase leads to the gallery and further up to the bell tower. The girder that supports the gallery is painted with an arabesque that is difficult to see today. The sacristy is added to the south of the choir. Among other things, it houses a shrine to store the chasubles and a stone sink. The main part of the cemetery is north of the church building, with some graves still remaining on the south side.
