The Fédération française de la randonnée pédestre (FFRandonnée / FFRP) is a non-profit national umbrella organization based in Paris to which 3,050 French hiking associations or clubs with a total of 180,000 active members are affiliated. The association is dedicated to the promotion and development of hiking and ecotourism and supports measures for environmental protection . His responsibilities include the entertainment and marking the French hiking trails, the mounting of the signposts of 6,000 members volunteer is performed, further creating new trails as well as the publication of guidebooks and trail maps .

The organization , which has existed under its current name since 1978, emerged from the Comité national des sentiers de grande randonnée (CNSGR) founded on August 22, 1947 on the initiative of Jean Loiseau . The founding members at the time were the Touring Club de France , Club Vosgien , Club Alpin Français and Camping Club de France . In the same year, the first hiking trail began to be marked along the Loire . This was later converted into the long-distance hiking trail or sentier de grande randonnée GR 3 , the complete signage of which was completed in 1983.

Today the association maintains a network of trails with a total length of 180,000 km, the routes of which are marked with different signposts
